What This School Does Well

This school gives pupils with severe learning difficulties the chance to thrive. Staff truly know each child and help them develop communication skills, independence and confidence in a calm, nurturing environment. The school prepares older pupils brilliantly for adult life through practical work experience and community involvement, helping them gain real skills and pride in their achievements.

Key Strengths

  • Expert staff who deeply understand pupils' complex learning and medical needs, providing highly effective care and support -
  • Personalised, ambitious curriculum that helps all pupils make progress, including teaching communication, reading and life skills -
  • Outstanding pupil engagement with calm, purposeful classrooms supported by specialist sensory and behaviour training -
  • Strong preparation for adulthood with work placements, life skills training and individual transition plans from Year 9 onwards -
  • Rich enrichment experiences including theatre visits, community trips, Shakespeare performances and Makaton choir

Areas for Improvement

  • Some learning activities do not fully reflect the school's ambitious curriculum vision - pupils need more consistently purposeful activities to build knowledge effectively -
