What This School Does Well

Langdon College excels at creating an engaging, inclusive environment where students with special educational needs develop real independence skills. The college prepares students well for adult life through practical work experience, community volunteering and travel training, with most students moving into paid or voluntary employment. Students have a genuine voice in college life and feel safe, supported and valued by caring staff.

Key Strengths

Students make good progress towards their personal goals and education, health and care plan outcomes
Teachers create engaging, positive learning environments using sensory activities and individualised teaching
Strong focus on developing independence skills including travel training, work experience and community volunteering
Safeguarding culture is strong with students feeling safe and confident raising concerns
New curriculum is better designed to support students' progression towards independence

Areas for Improvement

Leaders need to analyse student data in more detail to adapt the inclusion strategy more effectively
Work experience opportunities should be expanded beyond current Kisharon Langdon partners
Teaching assistants sometimes offer too much support, limiting students' chances to develop communication skills and friendships
Careers and work experience programme should start earlier and be better aligned to individual student interests
Curriculum offer needs to remain more varied and challenging as students progress

Langdon College is a specialist college for young people with special educational needs and disabilities in the Jewish community. The college has implemented a new, well-sequenced curriculum designed to help students develop independence and prepare for adulthood.
