What This School Does Well

La Salette creates a warm, welcoming environment where Catholic values are central to everything the school does. Pupils are exceptionally well-behaved, polite and proud of their school, with excellent attendance. The school provides rich enrichment experiences and targeted support to help all pupils, especially disadvantaged learners, achieve well.

Key Strengths

  • Strong Catholic values that create a positive school culture where all are valued and respected
  • Effective use of assessment to identify pupils needing support quickly, helping disadvantaged pupils catch up
  • Excellent progress in writing at key stage 2 with engaging, skills-focused teaching
  • Consistently good pupil behaviour and attitudes to learning, with very positive conduct around school
  • Rigorous systems for monitoring progress and evaluating teaching quality to target support effectively

Areas for Improvement

  • Inconsistent use of assessment across all classes to set sufficiently challenging work, particularly for the most able pupils
  • Achievement at key stage 1 not as strong as key stage 2, with many children entering Reception with limited skills
  • Progress in reading, particularly for boys, needs further development
  • Mathematics provision at greater depth needs strengthening to develop mastery skills

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective with clear procedures for checking staff suitability, regular training including Prevent duty awareness, and pupils feeling safe and knowing who to turn to with concerns.

Extracurricular Activities

Musical instrument lessons, ballet visits, concerts at Royal Opera House and Royal Festival Hall, sport clubs, choir, music ensemble

La Salette Catholic Primary School continues to be good. The leadership team has maintained strong educational quality and pupil outcomes despite staff changes, with sustained focus on improving teaching and assessment practices.
