What This School Does Well

King's Oak Academy excels at helping children develop as people - teaching them to be kind, respectful, and confident. The school creates a warm, calm environment where pupils feel safe and happy, with excellent support for families and the wider community. Staff ensure that all pupils, including those with additional needs, develop their talents and interests through a rich curriculum.

Key Strengths

  • Personal development is outstanding - pupils learn about staying safe, different cultures, and develop confidence to express themselves respectfully
  • Strong teaching in early reading with phonics, helping most children read quickly
  • Excellent pastoral support for pupils and families, creating a sense of belonging
  • Good behaviour and positive attitudes to learning across the school
  • Ambitious careers guidance from an early age, with extra support for vulnerable pupils

Areas for Improvement

  • Some 2024 exam results were below national averages - the school needs to raise achievement at the end of key stage 4
  • Recent curriculum improvements haven't yet had sustained impact on pupil outcomes
  • A small number of pupils have poor attendance, missing learning and enrichment activities

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with school leaders putting pupils' interests first and creating a positive safety culture.

Extracurricular Activities

Volleyball, parkour, football events

King's Oak Academy is a good school where pupils thrive in a calm, welcoming environment with high expectations. The school has made rapid improvements in many areas, though some curriculum changes are still developing.
