What This School Does Well

Kings Ash Academy creates an inclusive, supportive environment where all children are valued and have high expectations placed on them. The school excels in reading, achieving significantly above-average results, and gets to know every pupil well - even those joining partway through the year - helping them settle quickly and thrive. Staff work closely with families and offer a wide range of activities to enrich learning, ensuring cost is never a barrier to participation.

Key Strengths

  • Strong relationships between staff, parents and pupils with a 'no excuses' culture and high expectations across the school
  • Reading is prioritised and well-taught, with 2024 key stage 2 reading outcomes significantly above the national average
  • Early identification of pupils' needs and effective provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Fair and consistent behaviour systems with staff treating pupils sensitively and skillfully
  • Accessible enrichment activities with costs not acting as a barrier to participation

Areas for Improvement

  • Key stage 2 writing outcomes are lower than expected; while improvements have been made to early years and key stage 1 teaching, outcomes are not yet showing improvement
  • Teachers in some wider subjects provide work that does not match the high ambition of the curriculum, limiting how well pupils learn
  • Assessment systems in some subjects are still at an early stage, meaning the school cannot effectively identify and address gaps in pupil knowledge

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with the school creating an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Choir, basketball, residential trips

Kings Ash Academy has successfully maintained its previous good standards through effective leadership and a culture of high expectations. The school has overhauled its curriculum with clear knowledge progression and continues to make improvements across teaching and learning.
