What This School Does Well

Jacksdale is a genuinely caring school where every child feels valued and belongs. The staff create a warm, secure environment with excellent support for emotional wellbeing, and pupils have access to a wonderful range of trips and clubs including pantomimes, seaside visits, lacrosse, basketball and crochet. Children with additional needs receive particularly tailored support that helps them thrive alongside their peers.

Key Strengths

  • Strong safeguarding culture with open communication and effective systems
  • Excellent pastoral care and emotional support for all pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND
  • Warm relationships between staff and pupils with consistent behaviour management
  • Well-sequenced curriculum in English and mathematics with clear learning endpoints
  • Inclusive approach ensuring all pupils participate in trips, clubs and enrichment activities

Areas for Improvement

  • Inconsistent teaching quality - not all teachers check pupils' understanding sufficiently or resolve misconceptions
  • Attainment in reading, writing and mathematics remains below national average over 3 years, despite recent improvement
  • Limited development of letter and number formation skills across year groups
  • Some learning tasks not well matched to the knowledge pupils need to learn
  • Pupils' understanding of other faiths and cultures is less secure than other curriculum areas

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified, acted upon and managed.

Extracurricular Activities

Pantomime trips, seaside trips, school council, reading ambassadors, lacrosse, basketball, crochet

Jacksdale Primary and Nursery School is a friendly and inclusive school where pupils feel safe, secure and part of a caring 'school family'. While the school has strong pastoral support and wellbeing systems, there are areas where teaching consistency and pupil attainment in core subjects need improvement.
