What This School Does Well

This is a caring, welcoming school where pupils feel valued and safe. Staff build strong relationships with children and provide effective support for vulnerable learners, including those with special needs and disadvantaged pupils. The school offers a well-planned curriculum with engaging activities and enrichment opportunities that help all pupils develop confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils achieve in line with national averages in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6, particularly disadvantaged pupils
  • Strong attendance and behaviour due to consistent implementation of clear policies and warm staff relationships
  • Well-designed curriculum with teachers using effective activities to help pupils remember important knowledge
  • Excellent support for pupils with SEND through swift identification of needs and tailored interventions
  • Strong personal development programme covering British values, healthy relationships, online safety and wellbeing

Areas for Improvement

  • Early years teaching is inconsistent - children do not achieve as well as they should and some lack readiness for Year 1
  • Grammar, punctuation and spelling results at end of Key Stage 2 are weaker than other curriculum areas
  • Teachers sometimes move pupils to new learning before they fully understand current material
  • Early years staff do not consistently check children's understanding or provide high-quality interactions

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Cheerleading, science club, drama, football, trips to local farm and zoo, cathedral visits, 3 residential visits per year

Huyton With Roby Church of England Primary School is a welcoming school where pupils achieve well overall and are prepared for the next stage of education. However, early years provision needs improvement to better prepare children for Year 1.
