What This School Does Well

The school is making efforts to raise attainment, particularly for older pupils through extra sessions and targeted support in English and mathematics. Reading and phonics teaching has improved through ability-based grouping in Key Stage 1. The new headteacher is already working to identify and tackle areas that need improvement.

Key Strengths

  • Year 6 attainment has improved, with more of the most able pupils reaching above average standards
  • Reading and phonics progress has improved through grouping pupils by ability in Key Stage 1
  • Additional targeted support sessions in English and mathematics help older pupils make better progress
  • Pupils know how to keep themselves safe
  • New headteacher has begun identifying necessary actions for improvement

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching quality is inconsistent - some teachers talk for too long and don't pitch work at the right level for individual pupils
  • Leaders don't effectively check how well pupils are progressing throughout the school
  • Additional adults who support learning are not always used effectively
  • Pupils don't always have positive attitudes to learning
  • Leadership and governors haven't maintained the good standards from the previous inspection

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective - pupils know how to keep themselves safe.
