What This School Does Well
The school is making good progress on improving the quality of teaching and learning, particularly in English where you'll notice improvements in handwriting. Pupils are developing a real love of school and are keen to learn. The school has strong support from Bridge Multi-Academy Trust to help drive these improvements forward.
Key Strengths
- Curriculum is being improved with clearer identification of key knowledge pupils need to learn in some subjects
- English teaching has been strengthened through English Hub support, with visible improvements in handwriting
- Pupils' behaviour and attitudes have improved through a new behaviour policy
- Trust support is helping the school move forward at pace with subject development
Areas for Improvement
- Knowledge identification in some subjects is not yet clear, making it unclear how pupils' learning should build over time
- Teaching does not address repeated errors in written work, causing misconceptions to become embedded
- Pupils struggle to recall knowledge over the long term, affecting their ability to tackle new learning
- Staff do not apply the behaviour policy consistently, leading to inconsistent pupil attitudes and time wasted during transitions
Harrowbarrow Primary Academy has made progress in improving the school since joining Bridge Multi-Academy Trust in September 2024, but some aspects still need further development.
