What This School Does Well

The school has made strong progress since its last inspection. Teachers are now giving students dedicated time to reflect on feedback and improve their work, and subject leaders are supporting each other to share the best teaching practices. The governors have become much more involved in holding the school to account and challenging leaders to do better.

Key Strengths

  • Challenging target setting has been established for all students
  • Marking has been improved with reflection time given to students every fourth lesson
  • Subject leaders are working effectively as critical friends to each other
  • Mentoring of teachers is beginning to reduce poor teaching
  • Governors have significantly increased their challenge and understanding of school performance

Areas for Improvement

  • Variation in subject outcomes across different subjects still needs to be reduced
  • Some teaching in a few subject areas still requires improvement

Harlington Community School was judged to require improvement in February 2013. This monitoring inspection found that senior leaders and governors have responded constructively to recommendations and are taking effective action to improve the school.
