Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Haddenham Community Junior School creates a warm, welcoming environment where children feel genuinely cared for and safe. Teachers are knowledgeable and use effective questioning to check understanding, with a particular strength in reading where regular author visits inspire children to read for pleasure. The school offers many leadership opportunities and clubs that help children develop their talents and learn to be responsible and empathetic citizens.

Key Strengths

  • Well-sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge progressively from Year 3 to Year 6 with strong subject knowledge from teachers
  • Sharp focus on reading with effective phonics support that helps all pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils, become confident and fluent readers
  • Warm, caring school community where pupils feel safe and supported with clear behaviour expectations applied consistently

Areas for Improvement

  • Work is not always adapted to meet individual pupil needs, so some pupils with SEND are not sufficiently challenged or supported
  • Persistent absence of some pupils remains too high, meaning they miss important learning
  • Governors do not always have sufficient oversight of the school's provision and its impact

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with clear systems in place to support and protect pupils.

Extracurricular Activities

Table tennis, outdoor gym, climbing wall, reading buddies, eco-council, author visits, range of clubs

Haddenham Community Junior School is a welcoming junior school where pupils are happy and feel safe, with caring staff who have high expectations for behaviour and learning. The school has made significant curriculum improvements since the last inspection, with a strong focus on reading and values-based education.
