What This School Does Well

This is a warm, supportive school where pupils genuinely enjoy learning and feel they belong. Teachers have high expectations and work hard to help every child succeed, with particular strength in teaching reading from the start of Reception. The school provides excellent pastoral support and has created a caring community where children feel safe and happy.

Key Strengths

  • Phonics teaching is particularly strong, with Year 1 phonics screening results consistently above national figures
  • Well-sequenced curriculum across all subjects with strong focus on early reading and writing
  • Inclusive culture with high expectations for all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged groups
  • Effective pastoral support and wellbeing provision, including 'Otters' breaktime activities and drop-in sessions
  • Strong leadership that has driven considerable improvement since the previous inspection

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching quality needs to be more consistent - not all staff check pupils' understanding and address knowledge gaps equally well
  • Adult interactions during play-based learning in Early Years are not consistently effective in supporting children's learning

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have created an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified and managed.

Extracurricular Activities

Play leaders programme, 'Otters' breaktime crafts and activities, drop-in wellbeing sessions, careers events, community involvement opportunities, workshops on positive male identity

Grayshott Church of England Controlled Primary School is a caring, nurturing school where pupils achieve well and feel safe. Leaders have successfully improved the school since the previous inspection, with pupils now achieving consistently in line with national averages.
