What This School Does Well

This is a warm, inclusive school where children thrive in a nurturing environment. The school has worked hard to improve teaching and learning, with particularly strong phonics teaching that gets most children reading fluently by age 7. Pupils develop confidence, good relationships and a genuine love of learning here.

Key Strengths

  • Strong focus on teaching pupils to read quickly with phonics from Reception, with support for struggling readers - most pupils are fluent readers by end of Year 2
  • Improved curriculum with clear identification of key knowledge, particularly in English and mathematics, helping pupils build and apply learning progressively
  • Safe, nurturing atmosphere with warm relationships where pupils feel happy, confident and are encouraged to take on leadership roles
  • Consistent implementation of behaviour policy so pupils understand expectations and mostly behave well
  • Effective support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities to access the curriculum successfully

Areas for Improvement

  • Teachers sometimes do not move pupils on or extend their thinking enough, meaning some pupils do not learn as much as they could or deepen their understanding
  • Some pupils do not attend school regularly enough, which means they miss important learning and experiences

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with school leaders maintaining an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Librarians and house captain roles, visits to local care homes, trips to places of interest, classroom visitors, breakfast club, after-school club

Frittenden Church of England Primary School is a small, friendly school where pupils are safe, happy and enjoy learning. The school has made significant improvements since the previous inspection, with strengthened curriculum and clear expectations for behaviour.
