What This School Does Well

This school excels at helping all children progress well, particularly those starting from below average points. Teachers work closely together to understand what each child needs, and provide strong support for pupils with additional needs. Children develop a real love of reading and take great pride in their writing and learning.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils achieve well in reading, writing and mathematics, reaching above average standards by Year 6
  • Teaching is good and some is outstanding, with teachers setting demanding activities and providing effective feedback
  • Disabled pupils and those with special educational needs receive skilled, early support and achieve well
  • Pupils' behaviour and respect for each other are good, creating a positive school atmosphere
  • School leaders have successfully improved teaching quality and raised standards across the school

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils need more opportunities to work independently and use their own initiative to drive their learning forward
  • Marking of pupils' work is not consistently high quality across all subjects - it is particularly strong in writing but needs to improve elsewhere
  • Not all teaching stretches pupils' thinking and independence to the highest levels

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective - pupils say they feel very safe in school and have access to several trusted adults and a worry box for confidential concerns.
