Ofsted's report card from its 27 January 2026 inspection grades Fort Royal on 7 areas: 5 strong standard and 2 expected standard. Report cards replaced single-word judgements in November 2025, on a five-point scale from exceptional to urgent improvement.

Attendance and behaviour - Strong standard. "Pupils' attendance compares very favourably with the national picture, particularly when considering the significant medical needs of many pupils."

Early years - Strong standard. "Children make a flying start in the early years."

Inclusion - Strong standard. "Leaders quickly identify the needs of pupils."

Leadership and governance - Strong standard. "Leaders are passionate about and ambitious for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities."

Personal development and wellbeing - Strong standard. "The school has a highly effective personal development programme."

Achievement - Expected standard. "Pupils make progress from their starting points across each curriculum pathway."

Curriculum and teaching - Expected standard. "Leaders have established a curriculum which is ambitious and meets the needs of all pupils."

Safeguarding standards were met.

Ofsted's next steps for the school: "Leaders should continue to support staff to consistently use the school's agreed method of communicating through signing, so that pupils can access the curriculum, learn and communicate as well as possible".

From the headteacher's welcome: "Fort Royal is a community primary special school in the heart of Worcester, providing a nurturing, inclusive, and ambitious learning environment for children with a wide range of special educational needs. To attend Fort Royal School, a child must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that identifies the need for a specialist school placement."

12 parents answered Ofsted's Parent View survey about Fort Royal (as of April 2026): 92% would recommend the school and 92% say their child is happy there.

The strongest agreement was that they would recommend the school (92%); the weakest, that their child feels safe (83%).

39.9% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, and 5.8% speak English as an additional language, according to the 2026 school census.

The largest ethnic groups are White British (63%), Mixed (7%) and Asian (5%).

Almost every pupil at Fort Royal has an education, health and care plan (208 of 208 in 2026). The most common need among them is autism.

Fort Royal provides for pupils with physical disability, moderate learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

The nearest railway station is Worcester Shrub Hill Rail Station, about 750 metres away (roughly a 9-minute walk).
