What This School Does Well

Florendine creates a warm, family-like atmosphere where children feel genuinely cared for and safe. Pupils are keen to help others and take on responsibilities like being play leaders. The school has made mathematics teaching stronger with clearer explanations, and provides good support for children with additional needs.

Key Strengths

  • Happy, safe school environment where pupils enjoy attending and behave well
  • Strong focus on attendance with proactive support for families
  • Mathematics curriculum is improving with clearer teaching of knowledge and procedures
  • Good support for pupils with SEND working with external partners
  • Staff feel supported and valued by school leadership

Areas for Improvement

  • Reading and writing instruction needs significant improvement - many pupils struggle with basic skills and reading fluency
  • Curriculum implementation is inconsistent across subjects, leading to gaps in pupil knowledge
  • Early handwriting and pencil grip not taught effectively, creating poor habits
  • Teachers don't always identify which pupils are struggling and adjust support accordingly
  • Governors lack oversight of academic standards and haven't successfully challenged leaders to maintain progress

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with strong safeguarding culture and systems in place.

Florendine Primary School is a welcoming, caring community where pupils feel happy and safe, but academic standards have declined since the last inspection. The school is working to improve reading, writing, and curriculum implementation across all subjects.
