What Estyn said
Estyn's report on its June 2022 inspection summarises Ferryside VCP like this:
"The school provides a supportive and welcoming environment for pupils, which encourages them to be valuable members of the school ‘family’. The two classrooms, the wider learning areas and the outdoor areas are stimulating and colourful places where pupils can learn productively. As a result, pupils make appropriate progress in all aspects of their learning."
"They are polite, work well together in lessons and play happily with their peers on the playground. They are happy to speak to adults and value and respect the contributions of others. The curriculum is planned carefully to raise pupils’ awareness of their local area."
"It promotes Welsh culture, heritage and the Welsh language effectively and uses visitors and visits appropriately to enrich and expand pupils’ experiences. The school has experienced severe instability in leadership over several years. However, the current acting headteacher has transformed provision successfully, putting pupils’ interests and wellbeing at the centre."
Estyn made 4 recommendations: (1) Ensure consistency and stability in leadership; (2) Ensure that all staff have high expectations of themselves and pupils to maintain and raise standards; (3) Ensure that there are enough varied opportunities for older pupils to apply their numeracy skills across the curriculum; (4) Improve the standard of presentation of pupils’ written work.
