What This School Does Well

Evelina Hospital School excels at supporting some of the most vulnerable young people - those receiving hospital treatment while continuing their education. Teachers build strong, caring relationships with pupils and coordinate closely with home schools to ensure continuity of learning and support. The school has created a bright, welcoming environment despite space constraints, and pupils make excellent progress with carefully tailored support for their individual needs.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional safeguarding procedures with systematic monitoring and strong multi-agency coordination
  • Excellent progress made by most pupils from their starting points, with careful monitoring and aspirational target-setting
  • Supportive and positive staff relationships that help pupils cope during vulnerable times
  • Broad and balanced curriculum with regular enrichment activities including new sports and visits from sports celebrities
  • Effective leadership with strong professional development for middle leaders creating wider opportunities for career progression

Areas for Improvement

  • Need to develop more systematic recording of pupil progress in health, physical development, and social-emotional areas
  • Space and resource constraints need to be reviewed as the hospital expands to maintain current high standards
  • Further development needed for using technology systems to improve teaching on hospital wards for pupils too unwell to attend classrooms

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective, with leaders ensuring all procedures reflect latest guidance and staff receiving regular training including 'Prevent' duty and female genital mutilation awareness.

Extracurricular Activities

Boccia, new age kurling, visits from sports celebrities, enrichment activities programme

Evelina Hospital School continues to be outstanding, with strong leadership that has maintained excellent educational quality since the last inspection in 2013.
