What This School Does Well

This school creates a nurturing, values-based environment where children thrive both academically and personally. Pupils achieve considerably higher than national standards by Year 6 and develop into compassionate, active citizens who want to make a positive difference. The school is highly inclusive and provides excellent support for all learners, particularly those with additional needs.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional behaviour and attitudes - pupils are polite, courteous and genuinely respect each other
  • Strong inclusive practice with excellent support for pupils with SEND who are identified promptly
  • Outstanding character development preparing pupils to be active, responsible members of society
  • Excellent early reading with impressive phonics understanding in Reception and strong progress in Year 1
  • Highly positive attitudes to learning with pupils producing high-quality written work across the curriculum

Areas for Improvement

  • Need to clarify the precise essential knowledge pupils should know and remember in some subjects
  • Assessment approaches to check understanding during lessons and at the end of topics are not yet fully established
  • Need to develop a consistent system for identifying and addressing gaps in pupils' understanding without delay

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective.

Ettington CofE Primary School is a successful school that puts pupils at the heart of all it does, with three core values of trust, respect and love running through every aspect of its work. Pupils achieve very well and demonstrate exceptional behaviour and attitudes to learning.
