What This School Does Well

Eton Wick CofE provides a warm, caring community where your child will feel safe, happy and included. The school excels at identifying when pupils need extra help and putting timely support in place, particularly for children with additional needs. Strong relationships between staff and pupils create a positive learning environment where children are eager to come to school each day.

Key Strengths

  • Effective phonics teaching with most pupils catching up by end of Year 2
  • Strong inclusive culture with prompt identification of pupil needs and good support for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND
  • Well-structured maths lessons with practical resources that support understanding
  • Positive behaviour and respectful relationships between staff and pupils
  • Good pastoral support helping pupils develop self-esteem and mental wellbeing

Areas for Improvement

  • Early reading and writing outcomes in Reception remain below national average
  • Writing fluency gaps persist across the school and limit pupils' progress
  • Attendance is below national figures, particularly for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND
  • Some pupils not stretched sufficiently through curriculum tasks to secure and extend prior learning
  • Recent staffing changes in early years mean improvements are still at early stages

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Clubs, trips, residential visits, community events, charity work, cultural experiences, music and sports events

Eton Wick CofE First School provides a warm, inclusive environment where pupils feel safe and happy. While the school has strengths in reading instruction and inclusive practice, there are concerns about early reading outcomes in Reception and writing fluency across the school.
