What This School Does Well
Elizabeth House School excels at creating a caring, inclusive environment where vulnerable pupils feel safe and develop confidence. The school provides excellent personal development and careers education, helping pupils explore different career pathways through practical workshops such as climbing, woodwork, pottery, plumbing and electrical work. Staff know pupils well and provide sensitive, effective support to help them settle and focus on their learning, with pupils showing positive behaviour and strong relationships with each other.
Key Strengths
- Safe, welcoming school environment where pupils feel secure and happy - staff know pupils well and provide effective emotional support
- Strong personal development programme that builds self-confidence, resilience, and prepares pupils for independent living - pupils develop understanding of British values and respect for diversity
- Effective phonics programme for early readers - pupils develop positive behaviour and get along well with each other, with rare bullying incidents
Areas for Improvement
- Pupils do not make consistent progress in reading, writing and mathematics - many lack stamina and fluency and are not ready for GCSEs
- Teachers lack subject knowledge and do not have a good understanding of how to support pupils with special educational needs - classroom practices are not adapted to meet differing needs
- Leaders do not have an accurate view of how well pupils are learning across the curriculum - curriculum structure is inconsistent across different subjects
- Teachers do not check what pupils already know before introducing new learning, leading to activities that are sometimes too easy or too difficult
Safeguarding
Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified, acted upon and managed, making pupils safer and helping them feel safe.
Extracurricular Activities

Elizabeth House School is a specialist school for disadvantaged pupils, many of whom have experienced disrupted education. While the school provides a safe, welcoming environment where pupils feel secure and develop confidence, there are significant concerns about academic progress and support for pupils with special educational needs.
