Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

This school excels at teaching reading through high-quality phonics instruction and ensuring all pupils enjoy a wide range of texts. Teachers and teaching assistants work exceptionally well together to help every child learn confidently. The school is particularly strong at supporting pupils who join later and those with additional needs, helping them make strong progress and feel safe and well cared for.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent phonics teaching with careful progress monitoring and additional support for pupils who need it
  • Strong collaborative relationships between teachers and teaching assistants who debrief daily to improve teaching
  • Carefully mapped curriculum that builds knowledge logically as pupils progress through school
  • Effective support for pupils with SEND and those joining school later
  • Calm, orderly behaviour with rare bullying that is dealt with well

Areas for Improvement

  • Some pupils in mathematics are given work that is too advanced for their current knowledge and skills, preventing them from building understanding effectively
  • Communication between home and school about SEND provision needs to be broadened further
  • Pupils' knowledge of different faiths and religions is more variable than other areas of learning

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Weekly meetings between leaders identify situations where pupils or families need support, and systems for pupils from difficult educational backgrounds are highly effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Woodland Wednesdays, school trips, assemblies

Edenthorpe Hall Primary Academy has effectively maintained its standards since being judged good in 2019. Leaders have high ambitions for all pupils and provide strong teaching with effective support systems in place.
