Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

The school provides a strong start for young children in Early Years, with staff who understand their needs and create engaging learning experiences. Music and art provision is excellent and contributes meaningfully to pupils' development. The new leadership team is committed to raising standards and has introduced a training programme to improve teaching quality.

Key Strengths

  • Children in Early Years Foundation Stage make good progress with well-planned activities tailored to their needs
  • Strong provision for music and art that contributes effectively to pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
  • New leadership team is ambitious and determined to improve teaching quality, with a carefully planned staff training programme in place

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils' progress in reading, writing and mathematics is not fast enough, particularly between Year 2 and Year 6
  • Teaching is inconsistent across the school - work is sometimes too easy and teachers' expectations are not always high enough
  • Pupils do not use their writing and maths skills enough in other subjects
  • Behaviour and attitudes to learning need improvement - not all staff apply behaviour policies consistently
  • Leaders lack written development plans and middle leaders are new to their roles

Safeguarding

Pupils feel safe at school although behaviour and safety procedures require improvement due to inconsistent implementation of behaviour policies by staff.

Extracurricular Activities

World Book Day celebrations, music, art

Drayton Park Primary School requires improvement after previously being rated good. The school has experienced significant leadership changes and while the new headteacher and staff are ambitious to raise standards, there is not yet enough good teaching to ensure all pupils achieve consistently well.
