What This School Does Well
Crosby High School excels at helping students with special educational needs make good progress from low starting points. The school creates a positive, supportive learning environment where students develop confidence, self-esteem, and important life skills. Teachers use engaging, active learning methods and technology well to keep students motivated, and the school ensures all students - including the most disadvantaged - have equal opportunities to succeed.
Key Strengths
- Outstanding safeguarding with very strong systems and vigilant staff
- Good teaching quality with effective teaching assistants who work well with teachers
- Students show very good behaviour and conduct, with most eager to learn
- Excellent work on building student confidence and self-esteem through praise and positive relationships
- Well-designed curriculum tailored to different student needs, including the LEAP programme for less able students
Areas for Improvement
- Some teaching still requires improvement - learning targets in lessons are not always precise enough or clearly communicated to students
- Teachers don't always follow up on written feedback to check students have acted on improvement comments
- Some middle leaders need to monitor their departments more rigorously to check on colleagues' work quality
