What This School Does Well

Connaught House creates a caring, nurturing environment where pupils thrive as confident and successful learners. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and use effective questioning to extend learning, resulting in good progress across most subjects. Pupils demonstrate exceptional behaviour, politeness and positive attitudes to learning, while enjoying a wide range of enrichment activities that prepare them well for life in modern Britain.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional pupil behaviour - pupils are polite, well-mannered and demonstrate excellent attitudes to learning
  • Strong teaching and good progress in most subjects including mathematics, English and science
  • Outstanding personal development and welfare - pupils feel safe and extremely well cared for
  • Effective leadership with high expectations and ambition for all pupils
  • Wide range of enrichment activities and opportunities to develop as responsible citizens

Areas for Improvement

  • Teachers in humanities subjects lack consistency in setting sufficiently challenging tasks, preventing deeper learning
  • Most able children in Reception are not given enough opportunities to write at length and in different styles
  • Need to improve the depth of learning pupils can achieve in history and geography

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective - staff are well-trained to spot signs of harm including extremism, pre-employment checks are thorough, and clear procedures are in place.

Extracurricular Activities

Clubs, educational trips to museums, book fairs, music lessons and performances (teatime concerts and assemblies), poetry recital, debating, mock elections, visits to Houses of Parliament

Connaught House School is a good school with outstanding pupil behaviour and personal development. The new principal and headteacher provide ambitious leadership, and teaching across most subjects is strong with pupils making good progress.
