Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Collierley is an inclusive, caring school where behaviour and relationships are excellent. Children make good progress, and those with special needs receive particularly strong support that parents praise highly. The school offers a rich range of experiences including visits to London and the Houses of Parliament, alongside musical performances and sporting activities.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils' behaviour in lessons is excellent, with clear expectations and positive relationships between staff and children
  • Strong achievement across the school, particularly in mathematics and end-of-Year-6 results
  • Warm, inclusive environment where children with SEND receive effective support and parents are highly positive
  • Early years provision is well-developed with rich language and vocabulary focus
  • Leaders have good knowledge of pupils and provide effective professional development for staff

Areas for Improvement

  • Writing standards, including letter formation, spelling, grammar and handwriting, need consistent improvement across all year groups
  • Pupils do not always make clear connections across the curriculum or understand key concepts like what a civilisation is
  • Quality assurance of pupils' work needs to be more rigorous to ensure writing improvements continue
  • Understanding of how learning links to values like tolerance and respect is less well embedded
  • Support for disadvantaged pupils to access enrichment activities could be better developed

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have created an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, concerns are actively identified and managed, and pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Musical performances, sporting activities with other schools, educational visits including trips to London and Houses of Parliament, visits to local workplaces such as car manufacturers, after-school clubs

Collierley Nursery and Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive school where pupils achieve well and behaviour is a particular strength. Leaders are committed to continuous improvement and have created a safe, positive culture where all children thrive.
