What This School Does Well

Clayton Village Academy creates a welcoming, inclusive environment where children thrive academically and socially. The school is particularly strong at teaching reading and supporting children with additional needs. Bullying is exceptionally rare because staff manage behaviour incredibly effectively and respond quickly to concerns.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils learn to read quickly with well-trained staff providing strategic support
  • Strong relationships between staff and pupils help children feel safe
  • Excellent behaviour management with clear routines and very rare bullying incidents
  • Well-supported pupils with SEND who learn effectively
  • Effective early years provision with good vocabulary and skill development

Areas for Improvement

  • In some wider curriculum subjects, it is not clear what knowledge teachers should prioritise, making implementation less effective
  • The school does not consistently analyse information it collects about different aspects of its work to inform improvements
  • Pupils do not have enough opportunities to revisit and expand important knowledge in wider subjects, so understanding sometimes lacks depth

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with an open and positive culture that prioritises pupil interests.

Extracurricular Activities

Reading ambassadors, social action projects with elderly residents in care homes, shared experiences with contrasting schools, family breakfasts, online safety education

Clayton Village Primary School is a happy and inclusive community where staff have high expectations for pupils' behaviour and achievement. Children make a good start in early years, and pupils generally achieve well across key stages 1 and 2.
