What This School Does Well
Churchdown Village Infant School has created a warm, welcoming environment where pupils are polite, well-mannered and enjoy learning. The school is ambitious for all pupils to succeed and helps them develop into mindful, respectful and tolerant individuals who understand the importance of being good friends and community members. Teachers in English and maths provide clear explanations and quickly identify gaps in learning to provide targeted support.

- Clear and coherent curriculum with prioritised improvements in English and mathematics
- Strong focus on reading as a priority, with pupils immersed in a range of books to build confidence and fluency
- Well-structured early years provision that prepares children effectively for Year 1

Areas for Improvement
- Information about pupils' special educational needs is not always used well enough to adapt learning in the wider curriculum
- Assessment systems for checking what pupils know and remember are not embedded in some curriculum areas
- In a small number of subjects, staff subject knowledge is not secure, leading to less effective checking of pupils' understanding
- Some pupils with gaps in understanding are not catching up as quickly as they could in certain areas
