What This School Does Well
Chase High School has made strong progress in creating a safer, calmer environment where pupils feel confident reporting concerns. The school has overhauled its approach to safeguarding and behaviour, with noticeable improvements including reduced absences and better relationships between pupils. Teachers and staff are now better supported with clear expectations and training.
Key Strengths
- Effective safeguarding systems with improved risk assessments and staff training
- Significant progress on behaviour and attitudes, with pupils feeling safer and reporting concerns more confidently
- Better support for vulnerable pupils including those experiencing mental health difficulties
- Improved PSHE curriculum giving pupils more awareness of safety and respect
- Leaders using accurate data on behaviour to drive improvements
Areas for Improvement
- Curriculum still lacks breadth and depth - only just beginning to be revised with greater rigour
- Not all staff consistently apply behaviour expectations as intended
- Reading levels not assessed or monitored for all year groups beyond Years 7 and 8
- SEND support strategies recently shared but not yet used consistently by staff
- Sixth form students not receiving enough support for independent study
Safeguarding
Effective - the school has improved systems and culture, with better risk assessments, staff training on sexual harassment, and easier reporting routes for pupils.
Chase High School is in special measures following a graded inspection in November 2024. Leaders have made progress with swift action on safeguarding, behaviour, and curriculum improvement, but more work is needed before the school can exit special measures.
