Chailey School: admissions history

How many families applied, how many places there were, and how far the last place went - every year we hold.

For September 2026 entry, 219 families put Chailey School as their first choice and 552 named it as one of their preferences, for 174 places offered. That is 1.3 first choices for every place. 60 families who put it first were not offered a place there.

Demand has been fairly steady: 194 first choices in 2021, against 219 in 2026.

30% of applications came from families living in another council area.

Across East Sussex, 86% of families were offered their first-choice secondary school for 2026 entry, and 96% were offered one of the schools they named.

In 2025, families in East Sussex lodged 470 appeals against secondary school offers; 348 reached a hearing and 83 succeeded (23.9% of those heard).
