How the calculator works

For most oversubscribed state schools in England, distance is the primary admissions criterion after looked-after children and siblings. Our model estimates each school's effective catchment radius from local school density, adjusts for local authority oversubscription rates, and maps your postcode distance against that radius to produce a probability score. Faith school and selective school factors are also applied where relevant.

What does sibling priority mean?

If you already have a child attending the school, your new application benefits from sibling priority - placing you above other distance-based applicants in the queue. This applies to the vast majority of English state schools and can significantly increase your probability of a place, even if you live slightly further away than the typical catchment boundary.
