What This School Does Well

Cedars is a caring, inclusive school where all children thrive. The staff really know each pupil well and provide excellent support for those with additional needs or vulnerabilities. Children are happy, feel safe, and develop strong values including respect, kindness and resilience.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent safeguarding culture with clear systems to keep pupils safe and staff who respond caringly to all children
  • Strong attendance and behaviour management with consistent expectations and highly positive relationships at the heart of the school
  • Early years provision is highly effective with well-sequenced curriculum and excellent teaching that prepares children well for key stage 1
  • Inclusive approach to teaching with thorough support for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils
  • Leaders have successfully improved phonics, reading and handwriting outcomes

Areas for Improvement

  • Spelling, punctuation and grammar outcomes remain inconsistent and need to improve further to reach above national averages
  • Some checks for understanding in teaching are not consistently effective in all subjects, meaning some pupils do not build on prior knowledge as well as they could
  • Governors could further strengthen the way they challenge leaders to ensure continued improvement in pupil outcomes
  • Participation in enrichment activities could be improved for a small proportion of disadvantaged pupils

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met with an open culture of safeguarding where all staff understand it is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified and managed.

Extracurricular Activities

Art club, choir, multi-sports club, recorder lessons, guitar lessons, rock band lessons, school trips, residential visits in Year 4 and Year 6
