What This School Does Well

The school provides a caring environment where staff skilfully support pupils' emotional well-being and safety. Younger pupils are engaged and positive about school, and the school has made good progress improving attendance and engagement for most pupils. Staff use therapeutic approaches and careful risk assessments to manage pupils' behaviour well.

  • Younger pupils are engaged and report being well cared for, with positive relationships between staff and pupils
  • Reading promotion is effective, especially for pupils at early stages of reading

Areas for Improvement

  • The curriculum is not clear or precise about how pupils' knowledge builds over time, especially in the sixth form
  • Expectations of what pupils can achieve are too low, with limited access to higher qualifications or vocational pathways
  • Sixth form attendance remains too low and students disengage from learning
  • Pupils often spend too long on work they can already do instead of moving to new learning
  • Leadership oversight is not sufficiently rigorous to ensure improvements are sustained
