What This School Does Well

Bradfield is a school on an upward trajectory with strong leadership and improved stability. Teachers have high expectations and receive excellent training, helping pupils achieve well across a carefully designed curriculum. The school goes the extra mile to support all learners, including creating bespoke work experience projects for pupils with special educational needs.

Key Strengths

  • Strong curriculum offer with key learning identified and regularly revisited to help pupils remember
  • Effective reading strategy with targeted interventions and diverse authors to build empathy
  • Well-designed personal development framework helping pupils develop leadership, resilience and communication skills
  • Highly effective work to improve pupil attendance, particularly for disadvantaged pupils
  • Warm relationships between staff and pupils with calm, focused behaviour in lessons

Areas for Improvement

  • Some lesson activities do not effectively address gaps in pupil knowledge quickly enough, meaning some pupils do not learn as well as they could
  • Some pupils do not remember certain areas of personal, social and health education well, such as democracy and the rule of law
  • A small number of pupils and staff continue to have concerns about the school's effectiveness

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Clubs, sporting competitions, residential trips including to Kenya, work experience in Year 10

Bradfield Secondary School is rapidly improving after a period of change, with much more stable and settled conditions. The school has redesigned its curriculum and relationships between staff and pupils are now warm and respectful.
