What This School Does Well

The school has made significant progress in improving pupil achievement, with particular strength in developing pupils' reading, writing and numeracy skills. Teachers are increasingly using marking and questioning to help pupils understand how to improve their work and build confidence. The leadership team is driving improvements through better monitoring of teaching quality and more accurate assessment of pupils' progress.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils' attainment in reading, writing and mathematics continues to improve across all key stages
  • Teaching is improving, particularly in Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, and Years 5 and 6
  • Leadership team provides strong direction with sharp focus on improving teaching and pupil progress
  • Behaviour around school and in lessons is good overall
  • Better use of marking to help pupils understand how to improve their work

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching quality remains too variable across the school
  • Some teachers not always clear how numeracy activities support learning in other subjects
  • Teaching assistants less effective when working with small groups and managing inattentive pupils
  • Some lower attaining pupils spend too long with teaching assistants instead of working directly with teachers
  • Improvements in teaching need to be replicated across the wider curriculum beyond English and mathematics
