What This School Does Well

Your child will be happy and safe here. Staff really understand how to support individual needs, whether your child is learning to read, managing emotions, or working at a higher level. The school has worked hard to improve what and how children learn, so they build stronger knowledge and skills across the curriculum.

Key Strengths

  • Well-planned curriculum across all subjects with clear progression of knowledge and skills
  • Effective early reading programme with good phonics teaching and support for struggling readers
  • Strong personal, social and health education with focus on well-being, equality and diversity
  • Caring staff who meet individual needs of all pupils, including those with SEND
  • Pupils motivated to learn with good attitudes to their work

Areas for Improvement

  • Attendance remains too high for a minority of pupils, causing gaps in their learning
  • Limited range of extra-curricular activities and insufficient support to help pupils access them
  • Previous low test results in Year 6, though school is taking steps to improve

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with a strong culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Sports, music, visits from astronauts and other visitors

Axminster Community Primary Academy is a good school where pupils are happy and safe. The school has raised expectations of pupil achievement through curriculum improvements, though 2024 test results were below national average.
