What This School Does Well

Atlas Community Primary School excels at creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where all pupils thrive. Reading is taught exceptionally well with pupils making rapid progress, and the whole curriculum is carefully designed to build deep knowledge over time. The school places personal development at its heart, helping pupils understand equality, different cultures and faiths, and their responsibilities to the wider community.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent teaching of reading with highly skilled staff - almost all pupils make excellent progress
  • Ambitious and well-designed curriculum that flows from Nursery to Year 6, with pupils building knowledge over time
  • Exemplary pupil behaviour and attitudes, with rare bullying and calm purposefulness throughout the school
  • Outstanding early years provision with meticulous curriculum design and exceptional preparation for Key Stage 1
  • Strong personal development woven through the curriculum, preparing pupils exceptionally well for life in diverse Britain

Areas for Improvement

  • Mathematics taught through the wider curriculum is not as clearly designed as discrete lessons, meaning pupils' knowledge in these areas is not as secure
  • Targets in individual plans for pupils with SEND are not always precisely matched to their needs, so support in lessons does not always match planned provision

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with leaders creating an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Clubs, breakfast club, visits, visitors, enrichment activities, community projects (food bank support, tree planting in local park)

Atlas Community Primary School is a warm and nurturing place where pupils and staff take great pride in their learning. The school has made significant improvements since the last inspection and now provides a good quality education with outstanding behaviour, attitudes, and early years provision.
