Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

All Saints Benhilton provides a caring, inclusive community where pupils enjoy learning and make good progress. Teachers use engaging, fun lessons with strong questioning to deepen understanding, and the school has made impressive improvements in mathematics and literacy. Pupils feel safe, behave well, and benefit from strong relationships throughout the school.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics, with substantially improved teaching of mathematics
  • Teachers make learning stimulating and fun with effective questioning to explore pupils' understanding
  • Pupils behave very well and feel well cared for and safe due to strong relationships
  • Pupils who speak English as an additional language make rapid progress
  • Children in early years make good progress with access to a wide range of quality activities

Areas for Improvement

  • Small differences in teaching quality between classes lead to variations in pupil progress as they move through year groups
  • Teachers' expectations of the most able pupils are not always high enough, with work sometimes lacking sufficient challenge
  • Variations in pupils' handwriting mean some write more clearly and fluently than others
  • School development targets are not clear enough for staff and governors to measure success
  • Leaders do not always use pupil progress information sharply enough to check progress of different groups

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and fully in place, meeting all statutory requirements to keep pupils safe from harm.

Extracurricular Activities

Sports competitions and tournaments with other schools, assemblies with religious reflection

All Saints Benhilton CofE Primary School is a good school where leaders and governors acted decisively to reverse a dip in pupil attainment in 2014, rapidly improving teaching quality and lifting achievement across the school.
