What Ofsted found in each area
Leadership and governance: Expected standard
Leaders meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework and ensure that children remain at the centre of decision-making. They have a clear understanding of the club's strengths and priorities for development and thoughtfully consider the impact of their actions. Effective systems are in place to monitor, evaluate and review the quality of provision. This enables leaders to identify priorities and make meaningful changes that improve children's experiences and outcomes. Together leaders and staff reflect regularly on where further improvements can be made.
Leaders have established systems to safeguard children and ensure that safer recruitment requirements are followed. Staff complete a tailored induction and mandatory training. Leaders regularly monitor staff's continued suitability and provide feedback to support their professional development. Staff have access to a range of face-to-face and online training to support their professional development. Personalised training opportunities further develop staff knowledge and skills. Staff speak positively about the support they receive and value leaders' recognition of their individual interests and professional development needs.
Leaders prioritise staff wellbeing and ensure that workloads are manageable. Staff have dedicated time to complete training. There are regular supervision meetings and clear procedures to seek support or raise concerns. Staff state leaders are approachable and that they feel valued and supported.
Effective partnerships with families and the host school are well established. Leaders gather detailed information from schools and parents before children attend. This includes information about individual needs. Staff use this information to identify needs early, make appropriate adjustments and reduce potential barriers to participation and wellbeing. Leaders and staff maintain positive relationships with parents and keep them informed about their children's experiences and achievements, enabling staff to provide a tailored response to individual needs.

Ofsted report cards (England, from November 2025)
Since 10 November 2025 Ofsted has graded nurseries and pre-schools on a report card. There is no single overall grade. Instead, each of six areas gets one of five grades: Exceptional, Strong standard, Expected standard, Needs attention, Urgent improvement.
The six areas are inclusion; curriculum and teaching; achievement; behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines; children's welfare and wellbeing; leadership and governance. Safeguarding is judged on its own, as met or not met.
Expected standard means the setting does what Ofsted expects of every setting. Strong standard and Exceptional are above that; Needs attention and Urgent improvement mean Ofsted found things the setting has to put right.
