What is it like to attend this early years setting?

Children flourish as they eagerly explore and play with their friends. They are very confident learners. Staff expertly guide children to develop their independence. For example, children excitedly dress themselves to go out in the garden. At lunchtime, they chat animatedly to each other as they serve themselves food and pour their own drinks.

Children rapidly learn new vocabulary as they talk to staff and each other. Staff ask children challenging questions and children respond excitedly. When children make play dough, they are absorbed as they discover new textures and smells. Staff teach children to measure and mix flour and water. They listen to children's suggestions and extend their learning. For example, staff ask, 'Would you like to add nutmeg?' and say, 'Well done, that's fantastic, there are lots of smells and flavours here'. Children smile with delight as staff praise and encourage them.

Throughout the nursery, all children are busy and motivated. In the garden, toddlers climb, jump and ride on bicycles as they complete an assault course. In the pre-school room, children sing songs, play instruments and stamp their feet happily to music. Children play extremely cooperatively with one another. Their behaviour is impeccable. Children solve problems together and celebrate each other's achievements. There is a culture of positivity throughout the setting. Children have very close and nurturing relationships with managers and staff. Children have high self-esteem and are extremely resilient.

All children are very well prepared for the next stage of their education.
  • Staff skilfully interact with children to support their communication. Staff are trained on how to teach children new language. Managers have clear systems in place to enable all staff, including new staff, to observe excellent practice. Consequently, children enjoy purposeful and engaging discussions with all staff in the setting.
  • Staff and managers have designed a routine that is flexible and considers the needs of all children. Staff know that making choices makes children feel valued. They skilfully prepare resources to target children's individual next steps in learning. Staff ensure that all children, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, have access to a range of stimulating and appropriate learning experiences.
  • Staff understand that children need to feel safe and happy in order to learn. They encourage children to express their feelings in an open and calm way. Managers and staff have created a culture of kindness, sharing and democracy. All staff reinforce the 'golden rules' and encourage children to use 'kind hands'. As a result, children are very respectful of each other. Staff gently support children who need help to regulate their feelings.
  • Parent partnerships are exceptionally strong. Feedback from parents is overwhelmingly positive. Parents describe the nursery as exceptional and the staff as very attentive. They talk about the high levels of pastoral care that their children receive.
