School admission appeals pack

If your child was refused a place at a school, you have the right to appeal to an independent panel. The pack brings together what you need to prepare an appeal for one school.

What's in the pack

  • The law on admission appeals, quoted from the School Admission Appeals Code with paragraph numbers: deadlines, the hearing and how the panel decides.
  • The separate, narrower rules for infant class size appeals (Reception to Year 2), for primary appeals.
  • How many appeals were lodged, heard and won in the school's council, from DfE's figures where it publishes them (DfE does not publish them for single schools).
  • The admissions figures we hold for the school, such as applications and offers and the last distance offered, and how your distance compares.
  • A checklist of recognised grounds for appeal, with the evidence that usually supports each one, including grammar school appeals.
  • An appeal letter builder: your answers become a draft statement you can edit, copy and print. Nothing you type is sent to us.
  • What happens at the hearing, what to bring, your timeline, and why to stay on the waiting list.

Price and how to get it

£14.99 once, for one school, inc. VAT. A separate one-off: not included in Pro. It is offered on the admissions page of each school where DfE's figures show families who put it first were not offered a place: choose "Get the appeals pack" there. We ask for your home postcode so the pack can compare your distance with the school's figures.
