Skipton Girls' High School: admissions history

How many families applied, how many places there were, and how far the last place went - every year we hold.

Skipton Girls' High School is a grammar school: places go to children who reach the required standard in its entrance test, and only then are the oversubscription criteria applied.

For September 2026 entry, 180 families put Skipton Girls' High School as their first choice and 245 named it as one of their preferences, for 120 places offered. That is 1.5 first choices for every place. 61 families who put it first were not offered a place there.

First-choice demand has risen from 149 in 2021 to 180 in 2026, while places went from 116 to 120.

64% of applications came from families living in another council area.

Across North Yorkshire, 92% of families were offered their first-choice secondary school for 2026 entry, and 99% were offered one of the schools they named.

In 2025, families in North Yorkshire lodged 154 appeals against secondary school offers; 100 reached a hearing and 27 succeeded (27% of those heard).
